WINTERSET, Iowa -- John Wayne's birthplace in Winterset was voted Iowa's No. 1 tourist attraction in 2004, and it might just win again this year.

An Arizona man gave his van, which is painted with murals on the outside, a miniature saloon and hardwood floor, to the Wayne tourist attraction so fans could see it.

"I think he was probably an ardent John Wayne fan and he know that it had a home here," said Carolyn Wilson, at John Wayne's birthplace.

Wayne was born Marion Morrison in this Madison County home on May 26, 1907. He went on to appear in more than 200 movies over his 50-year career.

The "Duke" has been immortalized on everything from coffee ups to T-shirts.

The John Wayne birthplace and welcome center are open seven days a week. Guided tours of the house are given daily from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit their Web site at JohnWayBirthplace.org.
