- John Wayne, it turns out, swore like an Albanian spot-welder.

- He[Bogdanovich] also blends the role of film fan with that of film historian, making for some delightful moments. For example, he tells a story of walking through John Wayne’s garage and noticing a huge pile of unopened 35mm film canisters. When Wayne tells him it was part of his performing contract to obtain a pristine print of all his films, Bogdanovich tries to freak out quietly. “Do you have ‘Stagecoach’?” he gasps, naming the seminal John Ford classic then thought lost in original form. “Yeah, but I’ve never watched it,” Wayne says.

The chance observation resulted in Bogdanovich’s rescue of a classic American film.
